Ellenbrook Lions Club are the TOP IN AUSTRALIA

MEDIA RELEASE

LOCAL LIONS ONCE AGAIN THANK ELLENBROOK &   SURROUNDING SUBURBS

DATE: 07 May 2010.

Ellenbrook Lions members last night celebrated the announcement at this weeks Lions Mildura Convention that “your” local Club was announced as the highest seller of Lions mints in Australia despite fierce competition from the other 450 clubs during the calendar year 2009.

Ellenbrook Lions President, Tony Turner, applauded the six person Mints team and congratulated them on their commitment, sacrifice and drive to reach their target.

Tony also joined the team in applauding the generosity of the local community, which allowed us to achieve a massive $21,585 in sales of the $0.50 mint rolls, that’s a lot of rolls!, he said. He and the team also wished to thank the 110 businesses who have assisted us in achieving the award during 2009.

Ellenbrook Lions Club was officially founded eight years ago with 25 members. Since then the club has grown and now has a membership numbering 34 and growing. The Club is fortunate to have an enthusiastic group of members who are involved in a number of fund raising projects including newspaper collections, swap meets, sausage sizzles, Xmas cake sales and the children’s train.

One area which has proved to be very successful in raising funds for community projects is the distribution of Lions Mints.

The distribution of Lions Mints has been part of the activities of the club since its commencement. Initially there were seven outlets, however during the following three years the number of outlets dropped to five. It was then that two of our members took over the distribution of the mints believing that having two members dedicated specifically to the distribution of Lions mints would lead to an increase in the number of outlets and cash collected. By April 2008 their beliefs were confirmed with the number of outlets distributing Lions Mints increasing from 5 to 53 with annual sales increasing from $100 to over $10,000.

At this stage the workload was becoming far too much for just two members, so two further members were invited to join the team. The result of having an extra two members increased the number of outlets to 78 and annual sales to over $17,000. Since another two members have come onboard we now distribute Lions Mints to 110 outlets with annual sales expected to total $25,000 in 2010.

Once again it must be acknowledged that the success of the distribution of the Lions mints is due also to the outlets, their management and patrons. Without their cooperation and honesty our efforts would be worthless. We extend our grateful thanks to them.

More good news is that sales so far this year are well ahead of last year and with the help of our wonderful supporting businesses and the generosity of you, in the community, we hope to repeat our success this year.

From the Ellenbrook Lions – thank you!

and, please visit our website, www.ellenbrook.wa.lions.org.au , to discover what we, as Lions, do for the community in return for your support.

A HUGE thank you from RADIO ELLENBROOK 88FM

May 10th, 2010

MEDIA RELEASE

A HUGE THANK YOU FROM RADIO ELLENBROOK 88FM

DATE: 9th MAY 2010

Radio Ellenbrook 88 fm today expressed their sincere appreciation of the support they received from their sponsors, supporters and friends in their recent request for submissions to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) against the proposal to award the 90.5 fm frequency to a High Power Open Narrowcaster (HPON), which would jeopardise the station’s future upgrade to a community broadcaster.

“The support was fantastic given the short time we had to seek the support and the submissions”, said Anne Green, Secretary of Radio Ellenbrook  –  thank you all!

We wish to advise all in the communities we currently serve, Ellenbrook, Aveley, Henley Brook, Belhus, The Vines and a small part of the Swan Valley that:-

We are now immediately embarking on the next phase whereby Ellenbrook Community Radio Inc is submitting an Application for a Temporary Community Broadcasting Licence (TCBL).

Up until now Radio Ellenbrook 88 fm, in conjunction with Western Tourist Radio, has been providing a narrowcast service for over 3 years in a 10km radius from its station at 4/60 Coolamon Blvd, Ellenbrook.

If our application for a TCBL is successful, it would mean that our new signal would enable us to add the entire Swan Valley, Chittering Valley, Bullsbrook, Gingin, Midland and others to our existing listening audience.

We are appealing to existing and future sponsors, supporters and friends in all the above areas to assist us by  writing letters or emails to support of our application so that there will be a community radio station serving the area of the north-east Metro Perth.

So everyone, please help us by requesting (and completing) a supporters kit by contacting the radio station NOW on 9297 1088 or email radioellenbrook88@bigpond.com and ask for the TCBL supporters kit.
